The Top Three Reasons People Say “NO” To Coaching
So much of what I do as a coach is to help people make decisions. I help give them a framework and sounding board to come up with and land on the best option for them. When I engage with a potential client on a discovery call, part of my practice is to get a feel for the client's decision-making tendencies and to help them decide if coaching is right for them. It's not about trying to convince them to work with me; it's about helping them understand why they are a no because I want them to love their reasons.
It's too expensive, or I don't have the money. On the surface, this seems like a very responsible and reasonable reason not to move forward. Perhaps you have a limited amount of money coming in, and now doesn't feel like the right time to spend.
Take a moment and ask yourself, what is achieving my goals worth to me? Then, take a moment to close your eyes and visualize what your life would look like if you experienced personal growth and financial freedom. What would be different? What is stopping you from making that change?
I'm too busy. I don't have the time. We all have 24 hours in a day, so why is it that some of us feel like we have all of the time in the world, and others feel like they are constantly fighting against it to get everything they need done?
In my experience, we feel like we don't have enough time due to not having a roadmap for where we want to go in our careers. Without that roadmap, we lack clarity and focus, we throw spaghetti at the walls to see what sticks, and we lack the apparent certainty on how to best use the time we have. This is where coaching comes in. Together we work to create your roadmap because once you do that, the time you have seems to multiply.
Why try? Is it not going to work anyway? This is a widespread fear, and it may just be the driver underneath the first two. What if I invest my time and money and still do not see a change or improvement? What then? What does that mean for me?
The thing is, there are no guarantees, and you only get out of coaching what you put into it. If you believe it will not create change for you and your business, or if you think that it will bring the change that you've yearned for, then you are right. I believe in coaching so much that I too have a coach, and so you have two choices:
You can stay where you are, do things as you've always done them, and continue to feel stuck and anxious.
Or
You can try something different, do the work, and perhaps experience the financial freedom and success that you long for.
When any of us attempts to create positive change or create a new habit, our chances for success increase by 500% when we have a system of support and accountability in place, so what is it that you want to do?
